Process & Equipment

Melted, burned, crushed, or dissolved, our processes and equipment yield you the highest returns.

Receiving

Receiving Packages

Each package that arrives at our facility is carefully opened in the presence of at least two employees under complete video surveillance.

The material is then weighed and photographed on a precision scale, and weights are compared to those written on the refining form enclosed with your material. Any discrepancies in weight are immediately reported to your Account Manager so that you can be contacted before the lot is processed any further.

With weights confirmed, lots are then assigned a unique identification number and held in a secure location until ready to be melted or otherwise processed.

Stone Removal

We recover precious stones using Aqua Regia.

Upon your request, we can remove your precious stones quickly and safely using a chemical stone removal process called Aqua Regia.

Our technicians carefully monitor each reaction as your precious metal is dissolved, leaving clean stones ready to sort and return to you within 5 business days.

Best of all, we never charge for stone removal for lots over 5 ozt. And for a small fee, we can “etch” or “frost” your stones to separate the diamonds.

Processing & Melting

Our Custom-Built Induction Furnaces set the industry standard.

For precious metals like gold, silver, platinum, and palladium, we begin by melting your material in one of our furnaces and adding a precisely blended flux to remove impurities. The molten metal is then thoroughly mixed to ensure a uniform sample can be taken before being poured into a mold. The result: a solid bar and a homogeneous sample, ready for accurate testing and maximum return.

Fire Assay

X-rays are for broken bones. We use chemistry for true accuracy.

The number one question we hear… “What’s it worth?” To give you an answer, we typically use a fire assay.

Fire assay is still widely viewed as the most accurate means of determining gold and silver content, though it’s been altered very little over the centuries. Its origins can be traced as far back as the Bible.

Although it is fairly complex and time consuming, we think it’s worth it to get the most accurate possible evaluation — up to 1 part in 10,000 on gold.

Results Reporting

Precision to five decimal places. Because we can.

Once your material has been weighed, analyzed, and evaluated, a settlement is prepared using pricing taken from the 2nd London Fix on the day after your material is received at our facility.

For example if your material arrives at PMRS on Tuesday, you will be priced on the 2nd London Fix posted Wednesday. Your Account Manager will then contact you to report the final weight, assay, and value of your material, and to confirm your payment instructions.

Should you desire to “lock in” your metal price at a price you desire prior to the posting of the 2nd London Fix on the following day, simply contact your Account Manager when you feel the price is right for you, and the price will be locked by our trading desk. In the event you wish to place your material on consignment and have your precious metal collected in a pool account for payment in the future, contact your Account Manager.
